We sat down with Yaz to glean insights into his culinary journey and his perspective on Mayflower:
Q: What do you love most about Mayflower or what would you say to someone considering a career at Mayflower?
Yaz: The heartwarming sense of community, the camaraderie with my team, the incredible residents, and the supportive management make Mayflower a truly special place. To anyone contemplating a career here, I would say that you will be embraced by a team that goes above and beyond. At Mayflower, excellence is our standard, and we empower residents to live life on their terms.
Q: What inspired you to become a Chef?
Yaz: Cooking has always been my passion, and I find joy in the artistry and hard work behind it. The smiles and gratitude from residents continue to inspire me every single day.
Q: What advice would you give to someone considering Mayflower's services?
Yaz: At Mayflower, we are dedicated to providing excellence and empowering residents to shape their own lives. Our compassionate team will go the extra mile to ensure your happiness and well-being.
Q: Apart from cooking, what is your favourite pastime?
Yaz: Cooking is not just my profession but also my favourite pastime. Biryani, with its rich blend of spices, aromatic rice, and tender meat, holds a special place in my heart. The satisfaction of seeing my friends and family relish it makes all the hard work and patience worthwhile.
Q: What do you love most about your team and how do they inspire you?
Yaz: I am privileged to lead a diverse team comprising individuals from various backgrounds, each bringing their unique skills and perspectives to the table. They embrace their responsibilities wholeheartedly and work tirelessly to ensure resident satisfaction. Their unwavering dedication and positive attitude inspire me to lead them to success. We celebrate each other's achievements, fostering a supportive and uplifting environment.
Q: Do you have a favourite sport?
Yaz: Cricket is my favourite sport to watch, and I also enjoy playing it.
Q: Pineapple on pizza. Yes or No?
Yaz: Yes, but only on a beach in Hawaii. The local pineapples there have a distinct flavour and the beach would set the perfect stage. Interestingly, and not widely known, pizza was not born in Hawaii but in Canada, created by someone of Greek descent named Sam Panopoulos in the 1960s.
Q: What is your favourite quote?
Yaz: "The desire for success should be greater than the fear of failure." This quote, often attributed to Bill Cosby, serves as a constant reminder for me to embrace new challenges and continue pushing boundaries, both inside and outside the kitchen.
