Kind Words Lift Spirits

Our staff were pleased to be recognised for their care and support recently.

Two large hampers and a thoughtfully written card arrived at Mayflower Reservoir, helping to lift their spirits after the recent passing of much-loved resident, Bruce.

Bruce enjoyed dancing with staff members and other residents during happy hours.

“To the wonderful employees of Mayflower,” the card read.

“We really appreciate all of the care and support you have provided to our family, and in particular – our Dad, Bruce! Here is a small token to express our gratitude. From Paul and Frank.”

Bruce’s sons, Paul and Frank, were an important part of the Mayflower community, visiting most days to spend time with Bruce as well as taking him down to the local café for a cuppa and a chat.

Bruce was proud of his children and would often say that his biggest achievement in life was getting married and having a large family.

Born in Melbourne, Bruce worked as a sawmill operator, and loved going out into the country. He also loved music, film and books, especially fiction themes such as crime, thrillers, westerns and dramas.

Watching black and white classic films and listening to his collection of CDs were just some of the ways Bruce enjoyed his leisure time. His favourite was country and western music.

Ever the lively chap, Bruce really loved to take part in social outings and bus trips, and, with a love of wild animals (except for cats!), he particularly enjoyed the resident trip to the Melbourne Zoo earlier this year.

We would like to extend our gratitude to his family, for the thoughtful gifts and card they brought in for our staff. Paul and Frank will be missed as much as Bruce.
