Biggest Morning Tea 2024

Published

On May 29th Mayflower Brighton residents and staff donned their brightest yellow for the biggest morning tea. It was a bright and joyful morning, full of good food and song. The biggest morning tea is a yearly event that is held by individuals and organisations to raise funds for the Cancer Council.

Students from Brighton Secondary College came in early to setup and decorate the room for the aged care residents. There were touches of yellow, from table cloths to banners and posters.  They then spent some time chatting and getting to know some of the residents.

A musical Morning

While the residents snacked on lemon slice and brownies, and drank tea and coffee, the Brighton secondary students entertained with a variety of songs from old classics to modern pop songs. The residents really enjoyed the show, and the students seemed to revel in performing for the audience. Some of the students also generously helped to serve food and drinks the residents. The students then all sung together in a big finale performance, to end their part of the show.

A kinder surprise

The Grand finale performance of the morning tea show was from a local pre-school. A group of small children got up on the stage and bravely performed two Beatles songs, yellow submarine and let it be. Their performance was adorable, and a perfect way to cap off a very enjoyable morning.

Cancer Council

The Cancer Council is the leading cancer charity in Australia that raises funds for all types of cancer. The donations that they receive go towards valuable programs like sun smart programs in schools to reduce future cancer risk. The funds also go to cancer research programs, and to providing support for Australians affected by cancer, to help make their cancer journey easier.
