Meet Rowena: A Passionate Care Manager Making a Difference in Aged Care

Meet Rowena, Mayflower Brighton’s Care Manager, is a passionate and dedicated caregiver who has been working in the aged care industry for over 15 years.

Rowena’s journey began when she volunteered at an aged care home at just 16 years old, and she fell in love with the industry. From there, she pursued a career in nursing and spent several years working in acute care wards such as oncology and general medicine, as well as in perioperative and ICU nursing.

When asked what she loves most about Mayflower, Rowena says, "I feel like the company's values align with my own personal values,” adding, with the developing changes in the aged care sector, she feels she has truly found her calling. “I feel like I'm contributing to a larger purpose beyond myself, and that's really rewarding to me."

As for her greatest achievements in life, Rowena proudly says that it's her contribution to the population of Australia, “my two amazing boys are my greatest achievement, I am so proud of them.”

Outside of work, Rowena naturally loves spending time with her children. But, you might be surprised to know she also occasionally sings in a 7-piece band.

With a passion of all things culinary, Rowena says she enjoys cooking, “ I love Filipino food the most, I am really passionate about it, as it is a part of my culture.”

As a romantic, her favourite book is Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, and her favourite movie is also a classic romance, The Notebook.

Rowena has had some exciting extracurricular activities over the years, including being a Mental Health Foundation Australia Ambassador and Social Media Marketing Officer, and serving as President of The Women’s Association. Rowena also followed her pageant dreams, and was crowned Mrs. Universal Philippines in 2019 and Mrs. Universal Diamond in 2020. And a little less surprisingly, Rowena is also a hair and makeup artist.

In her role as Care Manager, Rowena is committed to providing the highest quality of care to residents at Mayflower. She believes that the key to good care is to always listen to the residents and to treat them with the same love and respect that you would treat your own family.

Overall, Rowena's passion for aged care and her dedication to her residents make her a valuable asset to the Mayflower team, and an inspiration to caregivers everywhere.
