Honouring Faith and Cultural Traditions Across Mayflower Communities

Easter is a time to celebrate, reflect, and honour the faiths and cultural traditions that make our community unique. This year, Mayflower residents took part in a variety of meaningful activities that brought them together to celebrate Easter in ways that reflected their diverse backgrounds and beliefs.

Mayflower Edith Bendall in Pascoe Vale: A Creative Celebration

At Mayflower Edith Bendall, Easter celebrations honoured both creativity and connection. Residents took part in arts and crafts, creating their own Easter bonnets and decorating cookies.

These activities not only brought out the residents’ artistic sides but also provided a chance for meaningful interaction, as they shared stories of past Easter celebrations. The day also included an Easter raffle, with all proceeds going towards enhancing the lifestyle program for residents. This was a great way to ensure that the spirit of community and connection was at the forefront of the celebration.

Mayflower Reservoir: Celebrating Both Orthodox and Western Easter

This year, Mayflower Reservoir marked a unique and rare occasion, as both Orthodox and Western Easter coincided on the same Sunday for the first time in 11 years. This special alignment allowed residents to celebrate Easter in their own cultural and faith-based ways.

Residents who follow the Orthodox Christian faith engaged in time-honoured traditions, including dyeing hard-boiled eggs red – a significant symbol of the Orthodox Easter celebration. They also enjoyed traditional Greek Easter treats such as Koulourakia (Greek Easter biscuits) and Tsoureki, a sweet braided bread.

The Easter raffle at Mayflower Reservoir added excitement to the day, with prizes won by residents, family members, and team members.

Funds raised from the raffle will go towards enhancing the lifestyle program, ensuring that residents continue to experience enriching and diverse activities. The Easter Bunny also made a surprise visit, delivering Cadbury chocolate bunnies and spreading joy throughout the community.

Mayflower Brighton: A Heartwarming Celebration of New Life

At Mayflower Brighton, Easter was filled with warmth and joy as the Easter Bunny made its rounds, visiting all 150 resident rooms and delivering chocolate eggs. The personal touch of the visits created moments of connection and celebration throughout the day.

Adding to the Easter spirit, 12 baby chicks, supplied by Henny Penny Hatching, hatched during the Easter period, bringing smiles and laughter as residents and team members enjoyed holding them and admiring their soft feathers and gentle chirps. The hatchlings served as a heartwarming reminder of the new life that Easter brings, a symbol of hope and renewal.
